Tuition Centre or Private Tutor?
In this article, we will make a comparison of engaging a tuition centre or private tutor. At the end of this article, you should be able to make an informed decision on what is best for your child.
- Cost
In comparison to private tutors, tuition centres are much easier on the wallet for parents. The pricing is relatively cheaper as compared to private tutors due to the economies of scale. This makes it affordable for parents to send their children for tuition without spending huge amounts of money on private tutors. The fee of private tutors is much more expensive as compared to tuition centres due to certain convenience and specialisation. These conveniences include traveling to provide the tuition at the comfort of your home and your child would be receiving the full attention of the tutor.
- Fixed factors
Location and schedules are the two main considerations that must be taken into account for your child. Tuition centres have fix classes with allocated time slots that your child would have to follow. This effectively means that you would have to adhere to the tuition timing too. You would also have to send your child to the tuition centres if the location is not within walking distance of your home. This arrangement may not be convenient for all families as it is inflexible. However, for private tutors, they can schedule to fit into your timing and customise which days to provide the tuition.
- Focus on your child
The amount of focus the tutor gives your child is dependent on how many students are assigned to a tutor. If having individual focus is a priority concern then a private tutor would be more appealing when sending your child for tuition. With that being said, this does not mean that tuition centres are unable to provide more attention to your child but usually, it would be lesser than an individual private tutor. This is important because the more attention is given to a child, either tuition centre or private tutor can customise the methods and materials to match your child’s learning speed.
- Subject Specialisation
There are tuition centres and private tutors that possess certain specialisation on certain subjects or areas such as Primary 5 math tuition. When the delivery of educational materials and lesson plans has specialisation, your child would be able to grasp the fundamentals and solve future problems easily. Specialised lesson plans can be used for students who have been excelling in their studies but weak in a particular area too.
Both tuition centres and private tutors have their benefits as well as disadvantages. The environment where your child is receiving the tuition is important as it affects their learning. It depends on the criteria you have set for your child and how does the schedule and location of the tuition affect your daily routine.
